Polly Raasch of Odebolt

Pauline “Polly” Raasch, age 73 of Odebolt, IA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, IA, with her loving husband of 51 years by her side. Polly was born on January 24, 1947, to parents Vernon and Margie (Deibert) Loger in Sac City, IA. She grew up in Lytton, IA with her parents until the age of five and then moved to a farm north of Odebolt, IA.  Polly was baptized at the Sac City Presbyterian Church and confirmed her faith at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. Polly attended grade school and graduated from Odebolt Arthur High School with the class of 1965. After graduation, she continued her education by attending Broadlawns Nursing
School in Des Moines for 18 months.
On June 7, 1969, Polly was united in marriage to Bruce Raasch at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt. This union was blessed with three children: Matthew, Marla and Megan. They made their home on the Raasch Century Farm north of Odebolt. Polly worked a short time as a nurse for Dr. Hubiak and babysat for several neighborhood kids. In her younger years, Polly was a 10 year member of the Wheeler Boosterettes 4-H Club and a member of the Odebolt Order of Rainbow for Girls Assembly #69.  Polly was an integral part of building the family farm operation, working alongside Bruce with the livestock and grain; she “retired” from this position when the kids were old enough to step in. She continued to be the bookkeeper and ultimate organizer, knowing what everyone was to be doing before they knew (on and off the farm), right up until the time of her passing. Polly volunteered a number of years as an EMT for the town. She was very involved in her church and community. She was a past Deacon for the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, taught Sunday School & Vacation Bible School for many years and enjoyed the opportunity to be Camp Nurse at the Presbyterian Camp on Lake Okoboji.  Polly was a member of Sac County Porkettes and received the Bell Ringer award in 1982. Polly dedicated well over 50 years of her life to 4-H and youth; she used to say her blood bled green. She was a leader of the Richland Robins 4-H Club for 23 years, judged photography at many County fairs, and was inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame in 2008. Polly also served on the Sac County 4-H Committee and Sac County Extension Council.
Polly was the go-to mom, friend and person for everything. She would always make sure everyone was ready for the fair, was her kids’ Elementary Room Mom, served on the O-A Music Boosters and was honored as an FFA Chapter Mom in 1992. She had the perfect healing touch for any boo-boo or owie she was presented with; we will sorely miss having Mom a phone call away for medical advice. She was an excellent seamstress; making her own wedding dress and several outfits for her children, especially dresses for the girls, and mended many a worn-out knee of jeans and elbows of shirts. She also made sure her kids celebrated their birthdays in style with meticulously decorated cakes of their favorite doll,
cartoon character, sport or special interest. Polly was a faithful supporter of all music, drama and sporting activities in the community. She enjoyed photography, flowers, plants and gardening. She was an avid Iowa State Cyclone and Green Bay Packers fan, rarely missing a televised or radio broadcasted game. Polly was a mom and grandma to everyone, which made her even more special to her family. She had a deep love for her family and cherished every moment with her children and grandchildren. Her thoughtfulness and giving personality will forever be remembered. She will be dearly missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Bruce Raasch of Odebolt, IA; children: Matthew (Janene) Raasch of Odebolt, IA, Marla (Rick) Keating of Charter Oak, IA and Megan (Mike) Irlbeck of Coon Rapids, IA; grandchildren: Kristina & Amber Rake, Drayton & Jaxon Raasch, Danielle (Scott) Uhl, Joshua Keating, Craig, Aaron, Eric and Grant Irlbeck; great-grandchild Emerson Rake; brother Steve “Bucko” (Deb) Loger of Odebolt, IA; many extended family members and friends.
Polly was preceded in death by their stillborn daughter, Michelle Marie, her parents and her father-in- law and mother-in-law, Raymond & Betty Raasch.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, IA. Burial will take place at the Odebolt Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the Church.
