Mike J. Willenborg of Carroll

Michael J. Willenborg, 69, of Carroll, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 24, 2020 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. 
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Church in Carroll with Father Patrick Behm as Celebrant. Music for the Mass will be Kate Cuddy and Kathleen Macke. Lector for the Mass will be Jami Lehman. Gift bearers will be Casi Kimmes, Tyler Willenborg, Brynn Lehman, and Mikey Willenborg. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Coon Rapids American Legion.
Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 P.M. Michael was born July 6, 1950, in Carroll, Iowa, and was the son of Joseph and Louise (Schwaller) Willenborg. He attended Evergreen rural school for 1 year then went to Dedham Elementary School through the 8th grade. He then graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll in 1968. On August 27, 1968, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. He was honorably discharged on June 2, 1974.
On May 5, 1973, he was united in marriage to Rachelle Olesen at the First United Methodist Church in Carroll. Two children, Chad and Jami were born to this union. He farmed the family farm for a few years before he began working at Allis Chalmers in Carroll until they sold the business to New Holland Company Store where he served as manager. In May of 1989, he was employed by Rueters Equipment in Carroll where he was a salesman and manager and continued to work until his death.
Mike was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll and played slow pitch for a number of years with the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Coon Rapids Gurney Parker American Legion Post 357. Mike and Shelley played for several years on a bowling and volleyball league and he also coached little league softball throughout many years. He loved to farm and always looked forward to growing “Papa’s Pumpkin Patch” for his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling with Shelley on various cruises, summer trips with family in Okoboji, and attending the Womens College World Series.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Louise Willenborg; his mother and father-in-law V.V. and Doris Olesen; his brothers: Francis Muhr and William Muhr; and his sister-in-law Kathleen Buchfinck.
Mike is survived by his wife Shelley Willenborg of Carroll; his children Chad (Kelly) Willenborg of Papillion, NE, and Jami (Matt) Lehman of Johnston, IA; his grandchildren Tyler, Brynn, and Mikey; his step granddaughters Marley and Sara; his brothers and sister Patrick Willenborg (Jane Hall) both of Coon Rapids, IA, Christine (David) Mickel of Harbeson, DE, and David Muhr of Coon Rapids; his sister-in-law Berniece Muhr of Audubon, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
