Jean Pietig of Carroll

Jean Pietig, age 94, of Carroll, died Monday, August 31, 2020 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Holy Spirit Church – St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter.  Music will be by Jane Heithoff and Jean Ludwig.  Lector will be Kayla Schmitt.  Eucharistic Minister will be Kevin Pietig.  Casket Bearers will be Jean’s Grandsons: Michael Orth, Brian Orth, Keith Pietig, Todd Pietig, Joel Pietig, Craig Pietig, Cory Pietig, R.J. Pietig, Bret Pietig, Christopher Brown, and Aaron Nichols.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.  There will be no public visitation prior to the mass on Tuesday morning.
Those in attendance at both the visitation, and funeral mass are required to wear a face covering, and abide by COVID-19 Social Distancing Guidelines.

Jean Marie, daughter of Wayne and Mary (Buckholz) Duffy, was born August 27, 1926 in Arcadia, Iowa.  She lived with her family in Arcadia, attended St John’s School and then graduated from Arcadia High School in 1944.  She worked in Carroll before her marriage on November 27, 1948 to Kenneth Pietig. They were married in St. John’s Church in Arcadia by her uncle Reverend William Buckholz.  Jean and Kenneth lived on a farm south of Carroll where they raised their 3 sons and 3 daughters.  She was a dedicated homemaker.  Jean enjoyed gardening, playing cards and going to dances.
In 1988 the couple moved into Carroll.  Over the years Jean worked in the kitchen at Arcadia Legion Hall and Holy Spirit School cafeteria.  Jean was a member of Holy Spirit Parish where she was a member of the Ladies Guild.  She was also a member of the Arcadia Legion Auxiliary.  Jean volunteered at the New Hope Bargain Shoppe and St. Anthony Nursing Home.
Jean is survived by her six children: Nancy (Harold) Orth of Council Bluffs; Randy (Karen) Pietig of Carroll; Kevin (Jayne) Pietig of Carroll; Kay (Steve) Nichols of Lubbock TX; Allen (Donna) Pietig of Carroll; Karla Brown of Carroll; 15 grandchildren; 22 Great grandchildren; as well as her nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents; two brothers: Orville Duffy and Charles Duffy; one sister and brother-in-law Donna and Jim Peters.  Granddaughter Amber Pietig; Great grandson Nolan Pietig; parents-in-law Herman and Amelia Pietig; brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws: Howard Pietig; Marvin and Annabelle Pietig; Margie and Orville Kock; Lynnette and Forest Case.
