Richard Baumhover of Wall Lake

Richard Baumhover, age 72 of Wall Lake, IA, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at his home in Wall Lake. Richard Albert Baumhover was born on February 23, 1947, in Carroll, IA, to parents Edward and Edith (Schrad) Baumhover.
Richard was raised in Wall Lake where he attended school and graduated with the Wall Lake High School Class of 1965. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and later became a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. Richard served in the United States Army for two years, serving overseas during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on September 6, 1968.
On July 22, 1972, Richard married the love of his life, Kathy Werkmeister in Wall Lake at St. Joseph Catholic Church. This union was blessed with four children: Heath, Nicholas, Susan, and Rebecca. Together, they raised their family in Wall Lake where Richard was a farmer all of his life.
Richard loved life and had many things he enjoyed doing in his spare time. Besides spending time with his family, fishing could be found at the top of the list. He also enjoyed camping, working on word search puzzles, and had a love for model railroading. Richard was a very proud grandpa, seeing his grandchildren always brought a smile to his face. He and Happy, the family dog, could also be caught watching old westerns on television together. Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kathy Baumhover of Wall Lake, IA; children: Heath Baumhover of Wall Lake, IA, Nicholas Baumhover of Tiffin, IA, Susan Lary of Woodbine, IA, and Rebecca Baumhover (special friend Jon Henrich) of Wall Lake, IA; grandchildren: Shelby, Paige, and Natalie Lary, Jacob and Anna Baumhover, and Braxton Baumhover; brothers Robert (JoAnn) Baumhover of Cheyenne, WY, and Ronald Baumhover of Livermore, CO; sisters-in-law Lisa (Juke) Pudenz of Lake View, IA, Candy (Roger) Scadden of Schaller, IA, and Kristie Garrels of Ankeny, IA; brothers-in-law Vince Badding of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Frank Mathias of Harvey, IA; many extended family members and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Edith Baumhover; daughter-in-law Nadiya Baumhover; sisters Darlene Badding and Eileen Mathias; brothers-in-law Edward Werkmeister and Steven Garrels.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 25, 2019, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, IA, with Reverend Roger Carlisle officiating. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home of Wall Lake is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will take place before the service at the church starting at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery.
