Carroll Woman Pleads Not Guilty To Stealing Vehicle From Indiana

Formal charges have been filed in District Court for Carroll County against a woman accused of stealing a vehicle from Indiana. Trial information was submitted Tuesday, Dec. 11 against 31-year-old Samantha Macias, of Carroll, indicating she faces one count of second-degree theft, a class D felony. According to the Carroll Police Department, the charges stem from an incident on Nov. 30, in which Macias was found in possession of a stolen 2006 Isuzu Ascender in the 800 block of N. Clark Street. The vehicle’s owner made contact with Carroll law enforcement earlier in the day to report he believed the SUV may be in town. Officers ran the plates to confirm the vehicle had been reported stolen. Macias was arrested for allegedly stealing the Isuzu and on an outstanding Carroll County warrant for probation violation. She later admitted to authorities she had taken the vehicle in order to leave an abusive relationship. She submitted a written not guilty plea on Wednesday to the felony theft charge but did plead guilty to the probation violation. A jury trial on the felony charge is slated to begin on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019. If found guilty, she faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
