There Is Still Time To Sign Up To Fight Hunger For Audubon’s CROP Walk

Hunger and malnutrition are issues across the world and even in Iowa, but local volunteers are doing their best to cut back on the global issue. The Audubon Ministry Association is again holding their annual CROP Walk this Sunday, Oct. 9, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Audubon. Pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Gordon Buchholz, says the walk is an easy way to help bring food and agricultural education to those in need across the world.

The CROP Walk has been a staple of autumn in Audubon for over 30 years. This year’s walk in Audubon is an easy and healthy way to join the cause.

Walkers are only planned a round trip of about a half mile, but Sunday’s forecast makes the CROP walk a good way to catch some crisp October air. Money is raised by getting sponsors to help fund your walk and there is still time to get signed up says Buchholz.

CROP actually stands for Christian Rural Overseas Program and was founded by Church World Service in 1947 after World War II to help the war-torn nations in Europe and Asia. The first walks that primarily focused on hunger were held in 1969. Participants will meet near Albert the Bull in Audubon this Sunday at 2 p.m. to start the CROP Walk to help end hunger. Phone numbers to get signed up for the event and how to get sponsored can be found with this story on our website.
