USDA Opens CRP General Signup

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has opened general signup for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) through Feb. 28. Farmers and ranchers who voluntarily enroll acres in CRP will receive a yearly rental payment for establishing long-term resource-conserving plants such as approved grasses or trees. These efforts help to curb soil erosion, improve water quality and create wildlife habitats on marginally productive land. The general signup is a competitive process and now includes increased opportunities for enrollment of wildlife habitats through the State Acres For Wildlife Enhancement (SAFE) initiative.
