Sioux City Man Accused Of Fleeing From Traffic Stop Now Faces Felony Charge In Carroll County District Court

A Sioux City man taken into custody last week for allegedly fleeing from law enforcement in July now faces a felony charge in District Court for Carroll County. According to trial information filed yesterday (Monday), 27-year-old Alex Zamorra Delashmutt is charged with eluding at speeds over 25 mph over the limit while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a class D felony. He was originally arrested for misdemeanor eluding. He is also charged with driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of cocaine, a serious misdemeanor. The charges stem from an incident on July 20 near Maple River. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office alleges Delashmutt sped away from an attempted traffic stop at speeds up to 110 mph. He later abandoned the 2008 GMC Acadia he was driving and evaded arrest by fleeing into a cornfield. Following the pursuit, law enforcement located 0.37 grams of cocaine salts in his vehicle. His arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, March 12. The charges carry a combined maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison and more than $15,000 in fines.
