Senator Ernst Calls For Outdated Fund Money To Be Used For Personal Protective Equipment

Iowa Senator, Joni Ernst, has pinpointed an unused, antiquated fund for her Squeal Award and requests the money be used in the battle against COVID-19. She says there is more than $350 million in taxpayer money sitting in the Presidential Election Campaign Fund and those dollars would be better used to build the National Strategic Stockpile with the personal protective equipment (PPE) needed for our healthcare providers around the country. “We should immediately move that money to where it’s critically needed,” Ernst says. “Let’s put it toward more masks and PPE for the health care workers who are on the front lines of this pandemic. Doing so could provide millions of masks and PPE without adding a penny to our national debt.” She has introduced legislation toward this aim as not even one of the 2020 presidential candidates has requested financial support from the fund. She adds that no successful candidate for the presidency has requested this assistance since 2004.
