Scranton Manufacturing Fire Estimated To Have Caused More Than $1 Million In Damage

Scranton Fire Chief, Doug Duff, says he does not know exactly how much damage was done in a Monday night fire at Scranton Manufacturing, but he is confident it will be over $1 million. His department received the 911 call at approximately 11:32 p.m. and he says flames were visible when they arrived.

Duff says he is extremely grateful they have such a good relationship with all area emergency responders as they sent out a call for mutual aid when the scope of the blaze became apparent.

In addition, Greene County Emergency Medical Services and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. Alliant Energy was called in to shut off the power, Black Hills Energy cut off the gas supply to the structure and Region XII was there to evaluate the paint materials as well. Duff says employees were working at the time the fire broke out and that a combustible material in the paint room is believed to have been what ignited. The damage, however, extends well beyond that immediate area.

Crews were on scene until about 3:30 a.m. No hot spots or flare-ups have occurred since that time and no injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal is expected to conduct an investigation at the site yet today. Carroll Broadcasting has been unable to reach Scranton Manufacturing management or ownership for comment. The business is a part of the McLaughlin Family Companies, which also includes such recognizable brands as New Way Trucks, Fleet Force New Way Truck Rentals, Hurricane Motorsports, New Way Auto, New Way Ford and much more.
