Sac County Conservation’s New Naturalist Hit The Ground Running With Great Digital Programming

It has been just a little more than a week since Sac County Conservation’s new Naturalist, Kristen Bieret took the helm. However, this Minnesota native says all things nature-related have been her passion for most of her life.

His asking her if she maybe was meant to be doing something different provided the spark she needed to remind her of how excited she always was to be outside. She said it motivated her to move to a career that has her helping inspire a love of nature in others. Bieret has experience in conservation, but was living and working in Harlan. Her husband is originally from the Sac County region and a change in their lives was the impetus for coming back.

Prior to physically taking over the naturalist position at Sac County Conservation’s center in Hagge Park, Bieret put together plans for ways to deliver programming while adhering to COVID-19 restrictions. Beginning July 6, she will be introducing the Naturalist Talk Podcast. She says there will be a link on their website and on Facebook to the podcasts, which can be found below. She says they are going to start the locally-themed conversation with bees.

However, Bieret is very open to suggestions, saying she knows with the recent bobcat sighting in the area, that may be a topic people want to know more about and she is going to be flexible with that aspect. She will also be offering a segment called Meet Your Park each Wednesday on Facebook. She puts up a picture from a natural area in Sac County and people guess where it is. She has crafted  Fun Fridays programming with a special activity for the entire family. These can be expanded on in Bieret’s Virtual Introduction to the Outdoors digital instruction.

The Hiking 101 and Camping 101 programs will be limited to 10 members so she can answer all the questions that may come up. More information can be found at the Sac County Conservation website or Facebook page or Bieret can be contacted at sccbnat@gmail.com.
