Pedestrian Airlifted After Being Struck By Semi Near Tyson Facility In Storm Lake

A pedestrian was airlifted with serious injuries Saturday evening after he was struck by a semi outside a Storm Lake meat processing facility. According to the Storm Lake Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 10:47 p.m. to the Tyson Pork site on Flindt Drive. Their initial investigation shows a semi-tractor trailer, driven by 48-year-old Curtis Newman of Fort Dodge and owned by Tyson, who was traveling east through the yard area and struck 63-year-old Michael Delcastillo of National City, Calif. Delcastillo was initially taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by Buena Vista County Emergency Medical Services and was later airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
