Landus Cooperative Selects Matt Carstens As New CEO

Ames-based Landus Cooperative has conducted a nationwide search for their next leader and the Board of Directors has announced Matt Carstens will be their new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Carstens was the unanimous selection with nearly 25 years of experience that spans every step in the supply chain, from agronomy to retail to end-user grain customers, food manufacturers, grocery stores and consumers. “Carstens brings to Landus Cooperative both a personal connection to cooperative heritage and a focused drive to move our business into a new chapter,” says Board President and Gowrie farmer, Jim Carlson. “We are focused on advocating for our farmer-members and customers, empowering our employees and leaning into the future of our industry.” An Iowa State University (ISU) graduate, Carstens holds a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business and has most recently served as Senior Vice President of Truterra, a division of Land O’Lakes. He also oversaw crop nutrition for United Suppliers and held various sales, marketing and management positions with a variety of other agronomy businesses. Carstens will take over the office from interim CEO, Mark Miner, on March 9. Miner was appointed to the position in mid-October of 2019 after Landus Cooperative announced a parting of the ways with Milan Kucerak, who had served as CEO since 2006.
