IDPH Offers Guidance To WIC Recipients During COVID-19 Pandemic

Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) reports more than 58,000 unemployment claims were submitted to them for processing last week. This sudden increase in jobless numbers has left many Iowans wondering how they will be able to provide food for their families. Last week, the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) offered guidance to people enrolled in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, more commonly known as WIC. The IDPH has submitted and received approval of several waivers to Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) to ensure benefits will continue as normal. However, they do encourage recipients to be patient while shopping, as grocery stores are very busy and items may not be stocked on the shelf at certain times. According to the department, products and benefits will be available throughout the month and refutes rumors that WIC foods will run out.
