Gov. Reynolds Announces 17th Iowan With COVID-19; Signs Proclamation Making Transport Of Goods Easier

Gov. Kim Reynolds held a press conference today (Friday) with the latest information on COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, in Iowa. The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) was notified Friday of one additional case in an Iowa resident, bringing the new total to 17 positive cases. This patient was tested in Nebraska and is currently recovering under isolation. Testing conducted at Iowa’s State Hygienic Laboratory Friday has not indicated any additional cases. State officials note all cases in Iowa are travel related. Reynolds announced she has signed a proclamation removing restrictions on oversize and overweight loads to allow for increased transport of food, medical supplies, cleaning products and other household goods. Iowans can help prevent the spread of illness by following simple hygiene practices including washing hands frequently, covering coughs and sneezes and staying home when ill. A public 24-7 hotline has been established for residents with question about COVID-19 by calling 211 or 1-800-244-7431. Status reports of monitoring and testing of COVID-19 in Iowa provided by IDPH can be found by following the link included with this story on our website.
