For the first time in the past 14 years of participating in MathCounts competitions, the Glidden-Ralston Middle School has a state qualifier. Elizabeth Lloyd will take part in the individual state competition on Tuesday, March 10 at the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny campus. Instructor, Julie Leonard, explains that the middle school students from all 50 states are brought together for more than 500 in-person chapter contests with a goal of making math learning fun. The MathCounts program develops problem-solving skills and positive attitudes about math so students can embrace challenges and expand their academic and career opportunities in the future. Each school can send a team of four students plus up to six individual competitors.
