Downed Power Lines Continue To Cause Problems In Jefferson

Jefferson residents continue to report potential hazards from damage caused during Monday morning’s storm. At approximately 4:04 p.m. Tuesday, an individual in the 600 block of South Vine Street contacted authorities about a power line that was still down over her garage. Law enforcement advised her to contact Alliant Energy or an electrician to address the issue. At approximately 6:32 p.m., the Jefferson Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the 300 block of South Chestnut Street in response to a tree branch on a power line that had started smoldering. Utility crews were notified to prevent any additional damage. The final call Tuesday came in at approximately 9:03 p.m. A resident in the 900 block of West Lincoln Way Street reported the power line to her home was sparking. Alliant Energy responded at approximately 9:44 p.m. to repair the damage line. Monday’s derecho caused widespread damage through the state. Iowans are advised to continue avoiding downed power lines and to contact their local law enforcement and utility companies if one is discovered.
