COVID Recovery Iowa Offers Resources To Aid Residents, Including Upcoming Webinars On Mental Illness

A newly-formed, federally-funded program that is managed by the State of Iowa is helping Iowans cope in many different ways with the far-reaching impacts of the coronavirus. COVID Recovery Iowa is currently offering a range of webinars this week that will deal with various aspects of mental health. There are two sessions planned on Thursday, June 25. The first is Talking with Children about Mental illness. The 11 a.m. webinar will help attendees understand how to approach the subject with a child and how to support them with this issue. At 2 p.m., the presentation will focus on Understanding Mental Health Basics. They will not only work on helping develop an understanding of what mental illness is, what it is not and how it can impact a person’s life, they will also talk about how common mental illness is and why stigmatization of mental illness matters. Other programs COVID Recovery Iowa offers include free virtual counseling for all Iowans, support groups for parents, teens and pre-teens along with yoga, music and more to help get residents through these stressful times. A link to register for the free webinars as well as one to the COVID Recovery Iowa website for more information can be found below.
