Coon Rapids Man Killed Monday In Two-Vehicle Accident Near Corning

The Iowa State Patrol reports a Coon Rapids man was killed yesterday (Thursday) afternoon following a two-vehicle accident in Adams County. The accident occurred about a half-mile south of Corning at the intersection of Highways 34 and 148 at approximately 1:39 p.m. Authorities say a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by 64-year-old Jerome Koester of Coon Rapids, was stopped at a stop sign and preparing to turn onto Highway 34. Koester then proceeded into the intersection and was struck by a westbound 2006 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer, operated by 47-year-old Travis Dukes of Lenox. Following the collision, the semi rolled, coming to rest on the driver’s side. Dukes did not report any injuries; however, Koester was pronounced dead at the scene. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted  by the Corning Fire Department and Adams County Emergency Medical Services. The accident remains under investigation.
