Cedar Rapids Woman Charged With Forging $3,000 Check Sentenced To Probation

A Cedar Rapids woman charged with theft and forgery in Carroll County District Court has been sentenced to probation. According to court records, 34-year-old Miranda Renee Reed pled guilty in March to second-degree theft, a class D felony. In exchange for her plea, the remaining count was dismissed, and a five-year prison year was suspended. She was placed on probation for three years to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. Reed was also ordered to pay $1,375 in fines, surcharges and court costs and victim restitution in an amount to be determined at a later time. The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Carroll Police Department into an incident at the Carroll Bomgaars on June 29 of last year. Reed forged a check to make a $3,050 purchase from the store. She was later caught on camera using a fraudulent check to purchase nearly $3,900 from a Bomgaars near Fort Dodge. Separate forgery and theft charges against Reed are currently pending in Wright County District Court.
