CCSD Working To Fill Key Administrative, Teaching And Support Staff Positions

As one of the top employers in the community, the Carroll Community School District is often in search of quality employees. But much like businesses across the region and the state, the school also struggles at times to find the employees they need. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says they have had a number of current staff members who have taken advantage of the early retirement offering and they are working through the hiring process to fill those positions.

One of these is a key one as Sue Ruch, elementary principal, will be retiring at the conclusion of this school year.

Berlau says it seems like throughout the year they are often seeking teacher assistants and bus drivers. He adds it appears there is a nationwide struggle to fill the latter.

Berlau says they have had a few mornings this school year where Transportation Director, Jeff Cullen, has had to ask drivers with the day off to come in to work, filling unexpected openings. And there have been some where they were within one more person calling in sick of not being able to run a route. The state legislature is working to add dollars to the kindergarten through 12th grade schools, with House Republicans wanting to include a $95 million increase while Senate Republicans want that number to be $76 million. Part of the additional dollars includes about $7.7 million for districts with higher transportation costs. Berlau says those extra funds are needed.

They are also seeking activity drivers in addition to the regular routes. Berlau adds if people know of teachers, bus drivers and support staff looking for a position, they point them to the district website to view the openings available. A link to that page can be found below.
