Carroll Supervisors Announce Intention To Appoint Wagner To Fill Treasurer Position At Seidl’s Resignation

In January, Carroll County Treasurer, Jean Seidl, announced her resignation at the end of the current Fiscal Year (FY), effective July 1. Citing the failing health of her mother in Colorado and a desire to spend as much time as possible in helping to care for her, Seidl told the Carroll County Board of Supervisors she was sorry to have to leave before fulfilling the remaining two years of her term, but this was a personal decision she had to follow through on. She then recommended Lisa Wagner, the current Tax and Financial Deputy and administrative assistant, be appointed to take over until the November election. Seidl addressed the supervisors again today (Monday), asking them to make their intentions known.

She identifies just a few of the many types of things that should be addressed before she leaves.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) would also have to be notified. Dean Schettler says he has always been in favor of an appointment in order to provide continuity and to be able to make the transition as seamless as possible. Neil Bock says they have not been left with much choice in this situation as there was no time for a special election.

Gene Meiners agrees that the timing is wrong, to no one’s fault, but says they should move forward with Seidl’s recommendation and make an appointment. Stephanie Hausman spoke out as well.

The supervisors will hold that special meeting as soon as Seidl’s resignation becomes effective. She now has their statement of intention to appoint Wagner to fill that role until the next election date in November of this year. Whoever wins that election will complete the remainder of Seidl’s term, and will have to run again in 2022.
