Carroll Man Arrested Again On Sexual Abuse Charges

Just one week ago today, 35-year-old Timothy Shane McFarland of Carroll had filed written not guilty pleas to two counts of second-degree sexual abuse with the Iowa District Court for Carroll County. On Tuesday afternoon, McFarland was again taken into custody on similar charges. The Carroll Police Department reports the arrest occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. in the 200 block of North Clark Street. McFarland has been charged with one count of third-degree sexual abuse and lascivious acts with a child, both class C felonies. An affidavit filed by the department states the charges stem from an incident on July 1, 2019. It is alleged that a child victim was made to touch and fondle McFarland’s genitals and pubic area. The previous counts came after an investigation into allegations that McFarland had engaged in sexual contact with a juvenile from August of 2012 through November of 2015. The victim was reported to be between seven and 11 years old at the time of the abuse. Following last week’s not guilty pleas, a March 9 pretrial hearing and a March 24 jury trial were scheduled in that case. Each second-degree sexual abuse class B felony charges carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.

Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to reflect McFarland pled not guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual abuse and changes to hearing/trial dates.
