Editor’s Note: This story has been updated to include both agencies involved in the arrest and the additional charge.

A Carroll man accused of stealing a handgun from a vehicle was taken into custody Tuesday by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. According to Carroll County District Court records, 26-year-old old Marshawn Shaw was arrested at approximately 1:16 p.m. in the 500 block of 18th Street after a brief foot chase. The Carroll Police Department assisted in the pursuit. He was transported to the Carroll County jail and charged with second-offense vehicular burglary, a class D felony, and interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor. An affidavit alleges Shaw entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle at approximately 4:10 a.m. on Dec. 30 and removed a Glock 9mm pistol and an empty magazine. Law enforcement located the firearm the following day in the possession of two individuals, who confirmed video evidence of Shaw taking the gun and told investigators he had asked him to hold onto it. He remains in custody at the Carroll County jail on a $5,000 bond. Shaw pled guilty to first-offense vehicular burglary in 2018 and was placed on probation for two years. A class D felony carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
