Breda American Legion Is Hosting Fourth Of July Fun Run/Walk To Raise Money For Building Repairs And Local Initiatives

The Breda Fred F. and Norman J. Bruning American Legion Post #607 relies on fundraising opportunities to support the operation of their building and the many other initiatives that help people in the community. COVID-19 has dealt a blow to their biggest annual fundraising opportunity as the huge Fourth of July celebration was cancelled. Legion members, however, will be operating a fun run/walk to offer everyone a chance to get out and have fun while adhering to restrictions. Legion Commander, Tony Schettler, says the 5k will start 8 a.m.

Registration is $20 and all participants will receive a medal. They are also offering a unique option.

Bring a stroller or your dog, Schettler says everyone is welcome. The money raised from the race will not only be used to aid their veteran community because Schettler says what they do touches nearly everyone in their region in some way.

Schettler says they are hoping to be able to open the Legion building again soon for weddings, receptions, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations and more. But they do need to allocate some money to building repairs.

Registration can be done through a link on the Legion’s Facebook page, you can follow the link included below or call Christy Schettler at 712-830-1518. Registration can also be done the day of the race at Breda Memorial Park. Legion members will be selling their gun raffle calendars at a cost of $40 each for a chance to win any of the 25 prizes. That raffle will be held in February. They will also be selling tickets for the chance to win $100 in cash, a hand-crafted American Flag and/or a gun safe. Those tickets are being sold for $1 each or six for $5.
