Ar-We-Va Families Asked To Complete Tech Survey As District Prepares For Possible Switch To Distance Learning

Officials with the Ar-We-Va Community School District are requesting parents and guardians to fill out a brief survey regarding students’ access to technology in the home to continue classes while schools are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to High School Principal, Chris Petersen, the nine-question survey will help teachers and administrators develop distance learning models.

In-person education at schools throughout the state has been on hold since March 16 following Gov. Kim Reynolds’ recommendation to suspended classes for at least four weeks to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus. Schools have the option to waive that missed instructional time, but many students, families and teachers are beginning to wonder if the school year will resume at all. Petersen says they are currently working on two potential models, one of them being strictly online.

He says they are also preparing for the possibility a purely online curriculum will not be an option.

Every Ar-We-Va student in kindergarten through 12th grade does have access to a computer from the school, but only older students are allowed to take the devices home. Peterson says the district may need to reconsider that policy if they decide to switch to online instruction.
