2019 Carroll Chamber Of Commerce Public Service Award Recognizes All Who Helped Move Library Project Forward

Each year during their annual banquet, the Carroll Chamber of Commerce recognizes a public, government or non-profit entity or individual that has gone above and beyond the call of duty for the people of Carroll. Recent recipients include the Animal Rescue of Carroll, the Carroll Athletic Association and Public Works Director, Randy Krauel. Longtime Carroll resident and 2016 Citizen of the Year, C.J. Niles, presented the 2019 Public Service Award Monday evening.

She added the Carroll Public Library’s award is different from previous ones because so many people have been involved at different times and in a variety of ways. She first asked the Carroll City Council to stand and be recognized, followed by current and former city and library staff, the Carroll Library Foundation, the Friends of the Library and more until everybody in the room was standing. Library Director, Rachel Van Erdewyk, and former Library Board of Trustees President, Sondra Rierson, accepted the award on behalf of all involved in the effort.

A formal groundbreaking ceremony for the library was held in October of 2018 and workers are now putting on the finishing touches. The only major item that remains is the installation of the building’s elevator. The library is tentatively scheduled to open to the public in late February or early March, but the date is largely dependent on when the elevator is delivered. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more from Monday night’s award winners in upcoming newscasts.
