World-Record-Holding Astronaut To Address Public At DMACC

A once-in-a-lifetime experience will be coming to the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Carroll Campus on Monday, March 4 with a special presentation from astronaut, Al Worden. Worden was the Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot from July 26 to Aug. 7, 1971. He is a world-record-holding astronaut, having completed the first deep spacewalk and being the most isolated human. Attendees at the presentation will hear about Worden’s service, which started with a degree from West Point that led him to the United States Air Force and on to earn master’s degrees from the University of Michigan. In becoming an instructor at the Aerospace Research Pilots School at Edwards Air Force Base in California, Worden was introduced to and trained some of his fellow astronauts. Worden has also authored three books: “Hello Earth! Greetings from Endeavor,” “I Want to Know about a Flight to the Moon” and an autobiography, “Falling to Earth.” Monday, March 4th’s presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m. in room 142 at DMACC. The event is open to the public, and pizza will be provided.
