Widespread Influenza Brings St. Anthony To Place A Temporary Restriction On Visits To Hospital And Nursing Home

The onset of influenza and influenza-like illnesses has led St. Anthony Regional Hospital and Nursing Home to place a temporary restriction on visits. Only parents and grandparents will be allowed to visit newborns at the Birth Place, and restrictions will be placed on visits to hospital patients and nursing home residents. St. Anthony is also suggesting that parents not bring their children in during this high-risk time. St. Anthony’s staff is taking every precaution to protect their patients, residents and all visitors from influenza this year. They encourage anyone with influenza-like symptoms—fever, chills, body aches, cough, fatigue, sore throat and headache, to avoid the hospital and nursing home while contagious. Individuals can be contagious for up to seven days from the onset of symptoms. They also encourage community members to remember and practice important flu prevention tips. They say it is not too late to vaccinate and anyone who has not yet received a flu shot can get one today, to wash your hands and wash them well, avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth and to cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Anyone with questions about whether they should visit a loved one or friend can call 792-3581 for more details on the restrictions.
