Trail Segment From Veterans Park North And Loop Around Youth Sports Complex To Be Completed This Year

The City of Carroll has accepted a bid for 2019 trail projects from Absolute Concrete Construction of Slater of just over $772,000. Director of Parks and Recreation, Jack Wardell, says this will cover work on two segments.

The alternate bid is for a six-foot sidewalk to the restrooms at the baseball field. Wardell says they would be able to keep those bathrooms open during the spring, summer and fall months if they so desire. He adds that even after an error was found on the bid documents, Absolute Concrete’s submitted numbers were still the lowest of the four received.

One bidder did catch the error and bid for the correct amount of RipRap requested. The others were amended to reflect their new costs for the reduced amount of rock to bring all bids back into compliance. The total proposed project, including professional services from Shive-Hattery of $25,000, is estimated at slightly more than $852,000. Funding will come from Fiscal Year 2019 bonds, hotel/motel taxes, and Local Option Sales Tax (L.O.S.T.) funds. This, in conjunction with a minor miscellaneous funding source and a balance in the trails fund, provides more than $1 million. In addition, Wardell says they are still working with the Union Pacific Railroad to get the Carroll Street trail at the tracks completed. He has left messages, asking when they will get back to pour the concrete needed. Until then, the city will not be able to complete the small amount of work remaining.
