A domestic situation in Early escalated Friday morning, leading the arrest of an Early man who had told witnesses he would elude authorities if they tried to apprehend him. The Storm Lake Police Department was advised at approximately 3 a.m. that 33-year-old Marcos Vargas had fled from the scene. About 20 minutes later, an officer on patrol spotted Vargas traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. Highway 71 near Highway 7. The officer pursued and was able to get Vargas to stop his vehicle about a mile farther north. Police made contact with Vargas as he was attempting to exit the vehicle, noting he was intoxicated and in possession of marijuana. He was taken into custody and charged with second-offense operating while intoxicated, an aggravated misdemeanor, possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, third offense, a class D felony, and speeding, a simple misdemeanor. He was booked into the Buena Vista County jail on a $7,000 bond. The vehicle was impounded pending execution of a search warrant. The Buena Vista and Sac County Sheriff’s Offices assisted.
