A Storm Lake man was arrested Monday after choking a 15-year-old juvenile male for wearing his socks. The Storm Lake Police Department was contacted by the Iowa Department of Human Services at approximately 11 a.m. about the incident that had allegedly occurred on Friday, Nov. 8. Thirty-seven-year-old Jose Maldonado was accused of placing his stepson in a choke hold until he lost consciousness. The juvenile remained unconscious for several seconds. An investigation uncovered the socks as the reason for the choke hold. Maldonado has been charged with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor and was booked into the Buena Vista County jail on a $2,000 bond. The victim did not appear to be injured.
