State Archery Tournament Scheduled For This Weekend In Des Moines

Nearly 1,900 fourth- through 12th-grade students will travel to Des Moines this weekend to compete in the Iowa State Archery Tournament at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. More than 85 full teams are competing for just under $17,000 in scholarships, as well as various prizes and a chance to go to the national contest later this spring. The two-day bullseye competition begins Saturday, March 9 and takes place in the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center. The one-day, 3-D competition will be in the Elwell Family Food Center, also on Saturday. The tournament is sponsored by the Iowa Bowhunters Association, Whitetails Unlimited and the Iowa State Archery Association, as well as multiple archery-enthusiast groups. The tournament organizers have also partnered with the Food Bank of Iowa to help individuals in need. Anybody who gives a nonperishable food item or makes a monetary donation will be entered into a drawing for a variety of different prizes. Admission is five dollars at the door, with a one dollar discount for individuals who show their hunting or fishing license. Admission for attendees 17 years old and younger is free.
