State And Federal Representatives Are Pleased With USMCA Announcement, But Congressman King Says It Is “Frosting” To Soften Impeachment Charges

Federal representatives and Iowa officials are expressing their approval of positive movement on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) Tuesday. The updated trade agreement will allow additional trade opportunities in the more than $10.3 billion in agricultural exports each year to Canada and Mexico. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Naig, says this is welcomed news and the agreement will greatly impact the state. “We are one step closer and I strongly encourage the House and Senate to quickly take action on this deal,” Naig says. Iowa Gov., Kim Reynolds, says after a year of attempts to ratify the USMCA, Tuesday’s announcement was a positive step forward for Iowa’s entire economy. “USMCA is a strong, balanced and modern trade agreement that will create opportunities for Iowa families, farmers, manufacturers and small businesses by expanding markets for our world-class exports,” she says. Fourth District Congressman, Steve King, is glad the USMCA is moving again. But he also says this agreement is a calculated, conciliatory effort by the Democratic Party to soften the same-day announcement of the impeachment charges. “[…] they didn’t want to face the criticism of the American people,” King says. “That’s an abuse of Power! But what they’ve [House Democrats] done to this Constitution, and then try to cover it over with the frosting of the USMCA on top of it, it is appalling. It’s an insult, at least to the people of the Heart of the Heartland who always know better.” A video of King’s comments can be found below.
