SLPD Utilizes Tactical Entry Team To Arrest Five People In Connection To Series Of Burglaries And Thefts

The Storm Lake Police Department has arrested five individuals in connection to a series of thefts and burglaries reported throughout the community. According to law enforcement, 19-year-old Chuol Gatluak, 18-year-old Malga Yanga, 18-year-old Reath Yak and two juvenile males, all of Storm Lake, were taken into custody at approximately 12 p.m. Tuesday by the SLPD Tactical Entry Team at a home in the 700 block of Walnut Street. Authorities alleged the men are responsible for numerous break-ins to unoccupied vehicles and two motor vehicle thefts. Gatluak, Yanga and Yak were booked into the Buena Vista County jail on numerous felony and aggravated misdemeanor charges and remain in custody on bond. The full list of charges can be found included with this story on our website. The juveniles were processed and transported to the Youth Dentitional Facility in Cherokee. Their cases have been forwarded to the juvenile courts. Storm Lake citizens who suspects their vehicle may have been burglarized are asked to contact the police department at 712-749-2525. Authorities are also encouraging residents with home security cameras to review their footage to determine if they may have any images of the individuals involved.
