Regulatory Commission Calling For Propane Industry To Aid In Solving Midwest Distribution Issues

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) reports they will begin an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process to address liquid propane shortages in Iowa and other Midwestern states after receiving requests from Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst and Gov. Kim Reynolds. The ADR will bring together pipeline companies, shippers and their representatives to explore actions that the industry can take to alleviate these issues. There is not currently a nationwide shortage of propane, rather infrastructure distribution problems. Senator Grassley says he has heard from farmers across the state as well as propane marketers, cooperatives and manufacturers about how the lack of access is affecting operations and threatening livelihoods. “This announcement is a good first step and I’m glad to see the FERC is taking this issue seriously,” he says. “I’ll continue to work with my colleagues and coordinate with state officials to keep a close watch as this process moves forward.”
