Registration For The Carroll Library 2019 Summer Reading Program Opens Tuesday

Less than a month remains until the first official day of summer, but the Carroll Public Library is getting ahead of the game by opening registration for the 2019 Summer Reading Program the day after Memorial Day. The library’s annual effort to encourage reading in all age groups during the summer months is their largest program of the year. Youth Librarian, Diane Tracy, says signing up is as easy as stopping by the library, beginning next week.

The theme for this year is “A Universe of Stories” with a loose focus on space. Anybody can participate in the program, and Tracy says they are offering bigger and better prizes as motivation for participants to pick up a book and read.

The main purpose behind the program is to avoid what Tracy calls the “summer slump,” or the loss of reading skills while students are outside the classroom.

Registration will remain open from Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, July 19 at the library’s temporary location at 425 West Highway 30. There is no cost to be a part of the reading program, and readers of all ages and skills are encouraged to participate. The full list of the events scheduled at the library for this summer can be found by following the link included with this story on our website.
