Progress Continues On Sac City Road Project, Despite Long Weather Delays

The first phase of a major road reconstruction project in Sac City is nearing its end, despite weeks of delays caused by rainy weather. The effort to repair a portion of Audubon Street between 5th and 6th Streets was originally slated to begin near the end of May, but City Administrator, Jamie Lawrence, says Mother Nature had different plans.

He adds most of the work in that area is actually finished, but they need to allow the cement to cure for at least seven days before vehicular traffic can resume. Lawrence says he is pleased they will be able to reopen the intersection soon, but he also warns there is still construction yet to be done.

Lawrence adds that he cannot be certain when the project will wrap up as it will be largely dependent on weather conditions during the next few weeks. The city council approved a bid for the work from Smith Concrete services for $334,000 in March. Original plans estimated it would cost approximately $450,000, and officials were pleased to see it come in so far under budget.
