President Of Iowa Soybean Association Stands With U.S. Farmers As EPA Grants Additional Renewable Fuel Waivers To Big Oil

Iowa Soybean Association (ISA) President, Lindsay Greiner, has released a statement, saying that the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) granting of additional renewable fuel waivers to the petroleum industry could not have come at a worse time for America’s farmers. Many farmers in key growing areas are struggling with flooding and suppressed prices due to trade disputes and tariffs. Now, the association says, they must also account for the impact of the EPA’s decision. They report a 360 million gallon decline in demand for biodiesel since 2015 can be attributed to the EPA as they continue to grant exemptions for the petroleum industry. This unfairly decreases market demand for U.S.-produced biodiesel. Iowa’s soybean farmers are condemning any exemptions that continue to put the interests of the oil industry ahead of those of soybean and biodiesel producers. In the past five years, the U.S. net farm income has dropped by nearly 50 percent, while crop prices have gone done about 60 percent. The Iowa Soybean Association and producers say President Trump has said he “has the back of the U.S. farmers; EPA taking measures supportive of ‘Big Oil’ calls the president’s support into serious question.”
