Police Chief, Brad Burke, Warns Of Payroll Scam

The Carroll Police Department has issued a warning to area businesses about a payroll scam. There have been at least two reports over the course of the past week that work emails were hacked and those addresses used to contact employers. Through the email messages, the author requests that the employer make changes to their payroll direct deposit, which then reroutes their paychecks to an account set up by the scammers. These employees only became aware they were the victims of a theft after they did not receive their pay. Police Chief, Brad Burke, is cautioning employers and suggesting that any direct deposit change requests be made in person, not through digital means.
