Planning Is Ahead Of Schedule For Carroll County Jail Project. Meeting To Work On Finalizing Plans Set For Next Week

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors, the Carroll County Sheriff, Ken Pingrey and some staff members with the Sheriff’s Office attended a jail meeting this week. Representatives from Shive-Hattery, the architectural and design firm based out of Des Moines who is developing the plans for the new $8.95 million jail project, were on hand to provide an update. The discussion included the hiring of a consultant to look into cost savings derived from the inclusion or exclusion of a full kitchen. They also reviewed options for the most cost-effective placement of transformers and generators and issues that take the joint cooperation of city and county to keep the project on track and in line with the budget. Before that meeting ended, a time and location for another public meeting was set for next week to review and finalize these plans. Several supervisors and Sheriff Pingrey will be traveling to Shive-Hattery in Des Moines and that meeting will convene at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16. The project is currently running slightly ahead of the original schedule and bids are expected to be received by July 25 and work to begin shortly after it is awarded.
