Physics Teacher, Scott Duhrkopf, Brings Fun And Learning Together In 16th CHS Rocket Rally

Spectators gathered in the field west of the Carroll High School (CHS) Thursday morning as students in Scott Duhrkopf’s physics class shot rockets into the sky. After being delayed a few days due to unfavorable weather conditions, the 16th CHS Rocket Rally officially got underway around 9 a.m. Seven different rockets were launched, some reaching altitudes of over 2,000 feet. Senior, Josh Luft, said a lot of effort went into preparing the rockets for their eventual takeoff.

Rocket themes included a Russian missile, John Deere tractors and even constellations. Luft and his project partner, Karter Lein, named their rocket “The Champion,” which featured the black and orange color scheme of the school’s mascot. Lein explained their inspiration for the motif.

According to Duhrkopf, he started the CHS Rocket Rally nearly two decades ago to make physics more engaging for his students.

He added that a lot has changed since the very first launches.

Video from the rocket launches can be found included below.
