New York Senator And Presidential Candidate, Kirsten Gillibrand, Advocates For Changes To Ag Policy And Single-Payer Healthcare While In Carroll On Campaign Tour

New York Senator, Kirsten Gillibrand, stopped in Carroll Friday as part of her three-day “Brave Wins” presidential campaign tour through Iowa. Carroll County Democratic Party Chair, Peter Leo, introduced her to a crowd of about 40 potential voters at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). Gillibrand used the venue to transition directly into her proposals to revitalize rural America. She said community colleges will have a significant role to play moving forward.

She added that similar ideas implemented in upstate New York have seen tremendous success, and believes it could work elsewhere. According to her, what the country needs most right now is a leader with courage, and the lack of that quality in the White House is why she decided to run.

Gillibrand then opened the floor to questions from constituents. The first topic brought up was how many family farms are struggling with the rising cost of production and low commodity prices. This a story Gillibrand has seen play out in her home state and across the country. She promised agricultural policy will change if elected.

As with almost every candidate that has visited Carroll, the focus then turned to healthcare. Gillibrand is an advocate for single-payer healthcare and explained that starting with Medicare is the way to get there.

Gillibrand spent about 40 minutes in Carroll before continuing on her campaign tour. Full video of her visit can be found included with this story on our website.
