Nearly 40 Kuemper Students And Chaperones Begin Their 10-Day Trip Out Of Country For Mission Honduras

A group of 24 Kuemper students and about 14 chaperones crowded onto a school bus Tuesday afternoon to begin their 10-day mission trip to Honduras. This journey marks the school’s second biennial mission to help the Honduran nation’s most impoverished residents. Mike McCarty, Kuemper K-8 campus minister, is again leading the trip. He says while there, the group will be building quality homes.

McCarty says work of this sort is sorely needed, but he also highlights the eye-opening experience the students and chaperones will have while in Honduras.

None of the people going, other than McCarty, have been to Honduras. Nearly all felt a mixture of anxiety and excitement in the moments leading to their departure. Senior, Brooke Janssen, says that she will likely view the world through a very different lens when she gets back.

Father Brian Feller will be joining the Mission Honduras trip this year. He says he could not be happier with the students and chaperones, who have chosen to give of their time and energy to help people in need, and to the community for the tremendous support of their efforts.

He also asks for prayers for a safe and productive trip. The fully-loaded bus left for Omaha, Neb. just before 4 p.m. Tuesday. They will board the plane to Tegucigalpa, Honduras Wednesday morning and then travel into the mountains to spend the next week and a half working with the residents.
