MidAmerican Energy Instrumental In Bringing Electric Charging Stations To Carroll And Early In 2020

MidAmerican Energy will be constructing publicly accessible electric vehicle fast-charging stations in five Iowa cities this year and 13 next, including fast charging and ultra-fast charging ones in our area. The chargers, which are compatible with nearly every electric vehicle, are to be installed by Los Angeles-based Greenlots and established and maintained by MidAmerican. Customers will pay a usage fee set by the host on site. These will be consistent with state laws and regulations. A 50 kW fast-charging station will be built in Carroll in 2020, but a location is currently under negotiation. The Early Casey’s General Store will be the site of one of the 11 ultra-fast 160 kW charging stations with installation anticipated in 2020. Six of those 11 sites are under negotiation and more details will be released at a later date. The current focus on site selection is along Interstates 80 and 29 and the Highway 20 corridors. In addition to supporting these charging locations, MidAmerican Energy offers $500 rebates to residential customers who buy or lease a new electric vehicle and $1,500 rebates to business purchasing level 2 charging stations, which will generally charge electric vehicles in four to eight hours.
