Michigan Man Accused Of Injuring Three People During June Pursuit Pleads Not Guilty; Trial Scheduled For September

An out-of-state man who injured three people while fleeing from law enforcement during a June pursuit on Highway 30 in Carroll has entered not guilty pleas to the charges against him. Carroll County District Court records say 39-year-old Todd Alan Michalec of Escanaba, Mich. faces six felony charges, including three counts of eluding or attempting to elude and three counts of serious injury by vehicle, all class D felonies. On June 3, Michalec failed to yield to authorities’ emergency lights and sirens and collided head-on with an eastbound 2012 Chrysler Town and County van, seriously injuring the three occupants of the vehicle. Now that he entered his pleas to the charges against him, a date has been scheduled for his trial, which is slated to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the Carroll County Courthouse. Michalec faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and $45,000 in fines if found guilty on all counts. He remains in custody at the Carroll County jail on a $20,000 bond.
