September unemployment levels for the region remained below state and national rates, according to the latest report from Iowa Workforce Development. Carroll and Sac Counties were unchanged compared to a year ago at 1.7 percent, followed closely by Greene County at 1.8 percent and Calhoun and Audubon Counties at 1.9 percent. Guthrie and Crawford Counties rounded out the seven-county region at 2.1 and 2.4 percent unemployment, respectively. Calhoun saw the largest shift in numbers and improved by 0.3 percent from September 2018. Greene, Audubon and Guthrie Counties were the only area to see unemployment rates rise with all of them sliding up 0.2 percent. Iowa’s unemployment held steady at 2.5 percent. The national rate dropped slightly to 3.5 percent.
