Last Weekend’s Celebrate Audubon Event Brings Community Together To Highlight 2018’s Achievements

Audubon community leaders and citizens gathered this past weekend to rejoice in the successes of 2018 and honor the people that made those successes possible. The Celebrate Audubon event was hosted on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the St. Patrick’s Parish Center, and attendees were treated to dinner, a silent auction and a live performance from the highly-rated Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos Company. In addition to food and entertainment, the Audubon Chamber of Commerce also named their annual award winners. Dan Madsen was chosen as the 2018 Citizen of the Year for his efforts and many contributions to the region, which include serving on the Audubon County Fair Board, Operation T-Bone Committee, Cattlemen’s Association and much more. Grace Christensen, the daughter of Jason and Tracie Christensen, was named the Junior Citizen of the Year. Christensen is currently a senior at Audubon High School and participates in FFA, National Honor Society, Student Senate, 4-H tennis, softball, speech, drama, choir and band. The Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to the Audubon Recreation Center Board for their efforts to open the new recreation center in town and to the Audubon Community Cinema Board for their work in restoring and reopening the historic Rose Theater in downtown. The Chamber has a another annual meeting next week, this time looking to the future. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 at the Chamber offices on Broadway Street, members will have the opportunity to voice their concerns about the issues facing Audubon in the coming year.
