One of the top stories of 2018 was the announcement that the equipment was delivered and construction had begun on Carroll’s first all-inclusive playground, Kellan’s Kingdom. This portion of a larger complex design at Northeast Park is the first installment in an area designed for children and adults of all physical and developmental abilities. Pat and Alie Tigges are the parents of the namesake of the playground, Kellan, who was born with a condition similar to cerebral palsy. They spearheaded the efforts to get the project off the ground and to raise the money needed for the playground, and are now partnering with an organization that helps communities bring baseball and softball to these individuals as well. Pat introduces the next fundraising effort for the Miracle Field that will be held this Saturday, Jan. 12.
The duet continuously pushes the envelope and holds the world’s record for the longest concert and they have done 60 shows in 50 states in 35 days. The Black Donnellys were in Carroll for a Kuemper Ball fundraiser last year, and will be returning to town to perform at Brothers on Main from 8 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Pat says they may be playing straight through as they are a band that doesn’t like to take breaks. Alie says another local business has made a generous donation to assist with raising money for the field.
The cost to attend the concert is a free-will donation.
