Lake View Makes Strides On Housing With Downtown Apartments But Creates Potential Issues With Parking

Lake View city officials have identified a potential new problem for themselves, which was created by one of their efforts to address the issue of limited workforce housing within the community. Currently, efforts are underway to add or rehabilitate second-story apartments near downtown. City Administrator, Scott Peterson, says affordable housing is a matter the council has been working on for years, but it may cause a future issue with parking in the area.

He adds it is not just an issue of having enough spaces. They also have concerns on how residents will park during severe weather, particularly in the colder months.

As it stands right now, most of the spots on Main Street are used by the businesses located there. Once all of the apartments are completed, Peterson expects to see a far greater number of vehicles parked in the area. Officials are still in the early planning stages and have not identified where a future parking lot would be placed or how much the project could cost. Peterson indicated the council would continue to investigate the issue and is optimistic they will find a solution that is agreeable to business owners, future renters and Lake View residents.
